Your mouths watering right? Don’t worry, this is a quick and simple fruit salad that can be whipped up in under 30 minutes – your fruit salad cravings shall soon be satisfied.
So the Fruit Salad, often underrated, overlooked and its versatility ignored. Yup I know, because I used to be one of those people. For a long time, I would associate fruit salads with ‘fruit that people didn’t know what to do with’ and apples that had gone brown because of sitting in a bowl, untouched for so long. Was it these memories of noticing the fruit salad being untouched in the food hall during my school years? The bother I felt when given fruit salads during family get togethers? Or the image of browned apple slices sitting in a bowl of some sort of syrup that made me dislike them so much? I’m not too sure, but it was a visit to a restaurant a little while ago that made me change my mind so quickly.
I was visiting a restaurant with friends for a birthday meal and whilst we were eagerly waiting for our food and chatting amongst ourselves a waiter came over and asked us if we would like to try a complimentary taster of a fruit salad that the chef was experimenting with. All of my friends eagerly said yes to his offer, except me. I felt rather awkward and as soon as the waiter said the words fruit salad, I couldn’t seem to help myself, but envision basic apple slices cut into a bowl with some other fruits and some sort of syrup. After hesitating for a moment, I said yes and took up the waiters offer.
Shortly after, the waiter returned with bite size portions of the salad already prepared on spoons… Ironically enough I could see sliced green apples!
‘Just try it’ I told my self, ‘you can’t be rude and say no now!’ I tried it alright and it was DELICIOUS! No kidding you guys, it was so good (I actually wanted more!). So fresh and so light, with the most mouth watering dressing. Since then, I have experimented with many fruit salads and appreciate them a lot more. I’ve found that they taste particularly good with a kick ass dressing and the orange, lime and poppy seed dressing here is no exception!
So I guess I learned two things from that experience. One, that fruit salads CAN taste bomb.com and two, that I find it very difficult to say no!
