I have been so busy as of recent. My brother got married two weeks ago and prior to that I was super busy helping towards organising the event and making last minute arrangements to help towards making the day PERFECT.
As you can most probably imagine stress and being busy=unhealthy snacks and meals. After one task was completed another would commence. This endless cycle went on for about 2 months and I found myself barely making any time to make the healthy meals I enjoy so much. Instead, I leaned towards eating unhealthy food that I thought would satisfy me at the time. In hindsight, those were silly decisions and I have learned to not allow life to get in the way of leading a healthy, balanced lifestyle.
Speaking of leading a healthy, balanced lifestyle, I feel this concept is often simply associated with what you eat. Without a doubt, this is an integral aspect, but I also think that there are so many other factors that contribute towards it. However, these factors are often forgotten or turned a blind eye to. Living in a digital revolution, we often turn to technology to receive satisfaction and gratification. Whether that be through going on social media, online shopping or catching up on our favourite show on Netflix, technology is often at the heart of these activities. But what about the other things? The beautiful things that our parents, grandparents and generations before us did? How did they pass their time and what activities did they partake in to keep themselves entertained and happy?
Don’t get me wrong, I think that technology is empowering on so many levels. It has the power to change our lives for the better and I myself love how connected we are on a global scale. BUT I think that during this process, it’s easy to forget to appreciate the little things in life and recognise other forms of beauty. Beauty that’s classic, original, old school, yet still so relevant and important in life. I was discussing this very concept two days ago with my eldest sister Husna during a phone call and she was telling me about a lovely poet she recently came across. Jalaluddin Rumi. She read me some of his poetry and we discussed its relevance in today’s society.
It was during that moment that I recalled my love for poetry and I reminded myself of the importance of taking a step back and embracing the raw, beauty of the world and the journey of life itself.
These two quotes by Rumi have stuck with me the past few days and I feel as though they are both interlinked. If you change your perspective on things, then perhaps you will take notice of silence and what the universe has to say to you.
So I guess the point I’m trying to make is YES eat healthy, but remember to make time for yourself, indulge in activities that don’t include technology and explore the world around you. It has so much beauty and can bring balance, perspective and happiness to this beautiful thing called LIFE.
